James Lee Scearce

James Lee Scearce received his heavenly healing on February 23, 2026, after a long, painful, and courageous battle with his health. He was born on January 2, 1955, to Homer and Patricia Scearce, who preceded him in death.

He leaves behind a family who loves him dearly: his devoted wife of 52 years, Judy Scearce; his daughters, Penny (Mike) Manning and Amy (Josh) Jennings; his grandchildren, Johnathan (Katlin) Manning, Justin (Kellie) Manning, Matthew (Neidy) Jennings, and Emily Jennings; and his two great-granddaughters, Hope and Gracie Manning. He is also survived by his brother and sister, Jerry and Jan Scearce, and his niece, Tiffany (Matt and Lucas).

James lived his entire life in Danville, Virginia. In his younger years, he farmed and later co-owned J&W Nova until his retirement. He was a hardworking and generous man who took pride in providing for his family.

He gave his life to Jesus and faithfully attended Mt. Calvary Church and Compassion Church in Axton. He served on the church board, participated in Emmaus, worked with the children, and found great joy in giving food, toys, and candy away at Christmas — and any other time he had the chance.

James loved working on old cars, fixing anything that was broken, and, above all, spending time with his family. Today, we rejoice knowing he is fully healed and able to run freely in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Compassion Church in Axton (6871 Irisburg Rd, Axton, Virginia) on Thursday, February 26, at 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:30 p.m., and a potluck meal will follow the service (please bring your favorite dish, as James truly loved good food and fellowship).
